Laga handbags are handmade in the province of Aceh, Sumatra, Indonesia by survivors of the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami that took the lives of over 285,000 people. Our handmade handbags are sewn by artisans on pedal-driven, non-electric treadle machines. Each bag is embroidered with hand guided patterns which have been passed down through generations and are indigenous to this area.
Each handbag is a unique piece of historical art which we have given an Indonesian name that depicts hope after the tsunami: “Damai” (peace), “Sehat” (healthy), “Percaya” (believe)… made from a blend of nylon-polyester material and embroidered with nylon-polyester thread, making it water and stain resistant. Each handbag is lined with luxurious synthetic silk-satin. Creative, authentic, attractive and organic, each handbag sewn and sold provides renewed hope for a better tomorrow.
Laga handbags, totes, travel bags, and accessories are all custom designed using the latest durable nylon-polyester fabrics and threads with fashion-conscious colour schemes, patterns for the woman who desires an exquisite product that helps others.
